Cabbages and Kings B&B is to be found at the The Old Post Office in Halstead village. Surrounded by the peace and quiet of the countryside yet only minutes from junction 4 of the M25 making it superbly well connected for the whole of Kent and Sussex, Gatwick airport, London and the Channel Tunnel

Period Character and Charm

The beautiful georgian flint house was originally built as the village post office and grocers around 1830. It has undergone many incarnations over it's 175 plus years, serving it's community. The Old Post Office welcomed the millenium with a complete renovation, the transformation drawing out all of it's charm and character to make it possibly the cosiest bed and breakfast in the Sevenoaks area. A simple yet sophisticated rustic country styling has been implemented to this period property using a wide range of natural materials. Oak, stone and slate, antique and modern furniture, delicate ornaments and lighting sumptuous fabrics and accessories, a comfortable blend of old and new, creating an atmosphere which is warm, relaxed and inviting.

Harmonious Design for Simple Country Living

Responsible for the transformation is Jane, your host. Having worked as a soft-furnisher and interior designer for over 24 years, the challenge to make The Old Post Office the "best it could be" was irresistable. Jane is responsible for the design and project management of the renovation as well as the change of the fabric of the building, much of the actual internal finishing, the interior soft-furnishings, furniture and accessories and the landscaping and planting of the garden.

Delicious Home-cooked Breakfasts

An enthusiastic cook Jane offers a delicious traditional English breakfast of eggs, bacon, sausages, mushrooms and tomatoes, toast and home-made preserves, sourcing as many ingredients as possible locally. Additionaly to this there is the addition of vegetarian and healthy options as well as daily and seasonal specials such as fresh melon with stem ginger or American pancakes with maple syrup and fresh fruit. Special dietary requirements can be catered for by prior arrangement.

Luxury En-suite Bedrooms

The main focus of the bedrooms is comfort. Each bedroom has been individually designed with its own fabrics, colour scheme and bespoke furniture. The en-suite facilities are all as individual as the bedrooms they accompany, and are fitted to a high standard with Christy's towels and luxury bath products. The addition of a few pieces of modern technology and creature comforts; ie flat screen LCD-TVs, a DVD library, clock radios, hair dryers, hotwater bottles and wheat-bags for those aching backs or tense shoulder muscles, along with the obligitory tea tray complete with cookies and an array of drink sachet's and infusions completes the experience.

Your in-house Tour Guide

Finally Jane has a good knowledge of the surrounding area and can offer an abundance of ideas for excursions and dining out, whether it is afternoon tea at one of the best tea-shops in the south-east or an adrenalin packed day at Brands Hatch motor-racing. Maybe a simple a stroll round one of the many historic houses and gardens in the region or maybe you fancy messing about on the river in a rowing boat, followed by a relaxing hour or two tucking into a delicious champagne picnic? Yes, Jane can provide picnics with reasonable notice. You can also enjoy a delicious afternoon tea served at The Old Post Office in the garden or by the fire in the guest sitting room on a cold winters afternoon after a days walking, cycling or sightseeing.
